Free email forwarding

Any address on your domain delivered to an inbox you already have, at no cost. Receive-only, and not for domains with a mailbox provider.

Every phas DNS zone can forward email. hello@yourdomain lands in the Gmail, Outlook or other inbox you already read, with no mailbox to buy and nothing to bill.

Switching it on

Open the zone under DNS and find the Email forwarding card.
Click Enable. The MX and verification records forwarding needs are added to the zone for you.
Add a rule: the address on your domain (just the part before the @) and the destination inbox.

The first time a destination inbox is used it receives a confirmation email. Click the link in it; until then mail to that rule is held. The zone page says when a rule is waiting on confirmation.

Rules

Add as many addresses as you like, each to its own destination. Two addresses can forward to the same inbox.

What it is not

Receive-only. Replies come from your personal inbox, from its own address. To send from hello@yourdomain you need a mailbox provider, or Transactional Email for mail your website sends.
Not for domains with mailboxes. A domain delivers mail to one place. Forwarding uses the MX records, and so does a mailbox provider, so a domain runs one or the other. Turning forwarding on replaces any existing MX records, and a mailbox provider's setup replaces forwarding.

Switching it off

Disable on the same card removes the forwarding records. Mail to the domain stops being delivered anywhere until new MX records are added, so have the provider's records ready if you are moving to mailboxes. See Choosing a mailbox provider.
