Your first hosting plan, from checkout to a live site

What happens after you pay, where your plan appears, and the three things to do first.

Paying for a plan starts provisioning straight away. The confirmation page shows progress while your account on the server is created, and you get an email when it is ready. Most plans are live within a couple of minutes.

Where everything lives

Your plan appears under Hosting in the sidebar. Its page has:

Section What it is for
Plan summary Plan size, region, billing status
Sites The websites on the plan, with a one-click sign-in to the control panel
Domains Every domain attached to the plan, and which one is primary
DNS records The records a domain needs to point at this plan
Add-ons Managed Backups, Monitoring and Transactional Email, switched on from here

Three things to do first

  1. Open the control panel. The Open control panel button signs you in without a second password. That is where files, databases, PHP settings and app installers live. See Open your control panel.
  2. Check the domain. A domain registered with phas at checkout is already pointed at the plan. A domain you own elsewhere needs one step at your registrar — see Point a domain you already own at your hosting.
  3. Decide about backups. Plans do not include backups. Managed Backups is an add-on you switch on from the plan's page. See How Managed Backups work.

Bringing a site from another host

Migration is free with a new plan. Open a ticket with access to your current host and we move the files, databases and DNS for you, with a preview to approve before anything changes. See Free site migration.
